Alexis Tae: learning independent production
Her interviews describe the work behind producing independently and the skills she learned from collaborators.
A commission made at home
In July 2020, Tae told AVN about a commission for ModelTime, a recently launched channel for independently made short films. She recorded the production at home and described the experience of taking on a directing role.
This assignment came during the studio shutdown. Her account shows that production work had become part of her routine alongside appearing in other people’s films.
Learning the technical workflow
Looking back in 2023, Tae said she learned about self-production, marketing and distribution during the shutdown. She also licensed material she had made at home.
Close collaborators helped her with paperwork, hard drives, backups and organizing files. She learned editing and how to upload work to different platforms. These were practical lessons in managing a production from recording through delivery.
Choosing a different pace
By the 2023 interview, Tae was prioritizing acting opportunities and assignments she valued. She described the change as a move toward quality over quantity after a demanding period of work.
She also spoke about making time for travel and her cats. These comments describe the approach she was developing at that point in her career.
